People living with celiac disease might be able to eat gluten again in the foreseeable future. Currently, the only treatment for the autoimmune condition is strict adherence to a gluten free-diet, as gluten causes damage to the small intestine in people with this condition. Now, a celiac vaccine, Nexvax2, is in its next stage of research, meaning treatment for celiac disease might be available soon.

Wow, so very exciting and interesting news on Reoviruses and Celiac disease. I was diagnosed when I was 42 years old. No one in my family has celiacs and I had never heard of it before. I remember going to the ER after hours of severe stomach cramps, diarrhea & vomiting. After that visit I experienced all those symptoms almost on a daily bases. It took 2 years after that visit to diagnose me with Celiacs.I know now that my comfort foods were killing me and I’m almost positive that I ate all kinds of gluten when I finally wanted to eat.
After reading several articles on the connection between these two I am convinced this is how I contracted the disease. There are several new articles and I urge you to check them out.
In order to maximize the health and nutritional benefits of going gluten-free, you should adopt a diet filled with a variety of naturally gluten-free foods such as fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, as well as gluten-free grains. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommendations encourage everyone, including those on a gluten-free diet, to avoid overly processed foods, and keep refined sugar and saturated fat intakes to a minimum.
